How deep is your love?

Ever feel as if you have gotten to know someone better after scrolling through their social media? Whether it be seeing pictures of them with their family and friends or listening to a song on their playlist we tend to feel closer to an individual by experiencing them through multiple different platforms.When online dating, this additional glimpse into another's personal life may be especially beneficial as it may provide support for their claims and increase your trust in them. Tinder has acknowledged this by allowing users to include both their Spotify music accounts and their Instagrams in their Tinder profiles in order to increase connections between users.

 We can see that Tinder’s collaboration with Spotify is playing into music’s ability to strengthen social bonds in that users are able to connect with each other over the same interest in a genre or love for a song. Having users most played music visible to potential matches may spark an interest that may have not been there otherwise or may be used as a casual conversation starter (McIntyre, 2016). A feature was also introduced that allows Tinder users to select a particular song off spotify as their anthem to represent them and their tinder profile in hopes that individuals with the same anthem will bond over the song (McIntyre, 2016). In addition to users direct access to other users Spotify music Tinder uses a system to ensure that ‘people with similar music tastes to yours will be more likely to show up” (Squier, 2016) within your potential matches . We can see that this partnership is mutually beneficial as the more individuals provide their Spotify accounts on their Tinder profiles the more that others who do not have one feel excluded and the more that people connect over the love of the same music the more matches Tinder will generate (McIntyre, 2016).

Similar to Spotify, Tinder has also incorporated Instagram into their app by providing users with the option to display the link to their Instagram account and photos on their Tinder profile. Users are able to select which pictures are visible to their potential matches without impacting their private instagram account (Parkinson, 2015).With a limit of the amount of photos and information you can provide on Tinder connecting Instagram allows for a more personal experience and enables users matches to follow them and get a further glimpse into their interests and personal lives.
